Seven Best Men's Polo Shirts

Polo shirts are a staple in fashion today, whether in the boardroom or on the golf course. These seven brands represent the best there is to offer in Polo shirts.

  1. Lacoste. The original polo. It was made in France and originally founded by Rene Lacoste because he wanted a lightweight shirt to play tennis in. The shirts are recognized by their iconic green crocodile.

  2. Ralph Lauren Polo. The bread and butter for most people’s polo shirts. Ralph Lauren is a classic; the pony is here to stay.

  3. Southern Tide. They are new to the race, but are quickly gaining ground in the south. The skipjack logo is unique, and the quality is excellent.

  4. Brooks Brothers. Brooks is known for classical tailoring and conservative styles and their polo shirts stay true to form. The golden fleece logo is drawn from the Greek myth Jason and the Argonauts.

  5. Fred Perry. For a polo with some English flair, Fred Perry is the way to go. Not as preppy as Lacoste or Ralph Lauren, but still an excellent style and a long tradition abroad.

  6. Pengiun. These polos are simple, well made, and look great.

  7. Old Navy. For a cheaper option, the old navy solid polos are an excellent buy. They are made to last, and they come in a rainbow of colors.

Are there any that we missed? Let us know.

Seven Best Yadkin Valley Wines

Wine is relatively new for North Carolina, but the Yadkin Valley is already producing a number of excellent wines. I love drinking local wines, and here are my seven best Yadkin valley wines.

  1. Shelton Vinyards 2009 Yadkin Valley Riesling. This is a great Riesling from one of the largest Vineyards in North Carolina. It is crisp, sweet, and has won a number of awards.

  2. Westbend Barrel 2008 Fermented Chardonnay. A great chardonnay with lots of oak undertones, it has medaled at the American Wine Society competition, the Mid-Atlantic Wine Competition, and the NC State fair.

  3. Sanders Ridge 2007 Viognier. This citrusy wine has a slightly spicy finish. It’s an unusual variety, and it has also won a number of awards.

  4. McRitchie 2008 Foggy Mountain Chardonnay. An alternative to Westbend’s Chardonnay, this one is unoaked and has fruity notes with just a hint of acidity.

  5. Divine Llama 2009 Traminette Gold. Similar to a Riesling, the Traminette Gold has the spicy sweetness of a Gewurtztraminer and the strong finish of a Seyval Blanc.

  6. Cellar 4201 2009 Stainless Chardonay. Another great Chardonay from the region, this bottle has citrus tones and is great with pasta and sea food.

  7. Raffaldini 2008 Oenotria. A full bodied red built on a foundation of Tannat and Malbec. It’s a little peppery and tastes excellent now, and if you let it age five years it should taste exquisite.
What are your favorite Yadkin Valley wines?

Seven Best Action Movies

Action movies are fun, fast paced, and the good ones keep you glued to your seat. These seven movies have done just that. They also have been innovators in the genre and pushed it to new limits.

1. The Matrix. This movie was a game changer. You can’t watch a movie with ‘bullet time’ or a 360 degree camera pan without thinking of The Matrix.

2. Saving Private Ryan. The D-Day scene is one of the most realistic and epic scenes ever shot on film, and has been a benchmark in the genre ever since.

3. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. The entire series was packed full of action, but this one stands above the rest for its battle of Pelennor Fields.

4. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. The snow battle on planet Hoth, Yoda training Luke to use the force, and a light saber battle between Skywalker and Darth Vader. Not only did the movie revolutionize CGI, but it has been one of the most recognizable movies through multiple generations.

5. Kill Bill, Vol. 1. Often cited as Tarantino’s best work, this film takes violence and revenge to a new level.

6. Gladiator. This film brought to life the brutal ancient tradition of the roman coliseum and led a slew of epic movies following in its footsteps.

7. Enter the Dragon. Bruce Lee at his best. No superfluous dialogue or plot development, just an hour and a half of some of the best Kung Fu on film.

Are there any others that should be on the list?
